Steps to Improve Your Test-Taking Experience
When stepping through exams it is significant for you to know and see first, the various types of test addresses you may experience and second, how you can help augment your capability of improving by realizing a couple of straightforward abilities to assist you with acing whatever test you might be confronted with. The three most basic various types of tests incorporate yet aren't constrained to; coordinating, numerous decision and exposition tests. In the following hardly any body passages you will learn basic abilities that will assist you with seeing how to ace each test just as other general data that can help you when stepping through any sort of examination. During any test, above all else you should peruse the headings exceptionally cautious. The greatest method to dispose of making imprudent mistakes is to completely comprehend what the inquiries are posing and to adhere to all guidelines. We will initially talk about coordinating tests and the abilities expected to take them. During coordinating parts of tests it is simple for an understudy to become debilitated and diverted as a result of the degree of information it appears to take to respond to these test questions. One beneficial thing to recollect about coordinating inquiries anyway is that most coordinating inquiries are generally separated sentences, so giving close consideration to syntactic intimations is vital. Additionally staying alert that as a rule a long inquiry isn't matched with a long answer. Much of the time if the inquiry is long, the appropriate response is short and the other way around. One last accommodating insight during coordinating segments of tests is stamping out utilized answers, this is useful in disposing of repetition except if the headings explicitly state a few answers might be utilize more than once. Second are different decision tests. Different decision tests are generally basic in school courses and require a ton of consideration regarding guarantee getting a passing mark. Again first, read all bearings. In the event that you are uncertain about what the test is asking, request explanation from the educator. A decent method to start stepping through a different decision exam is to peruse the entirety of the inquiries before endeavoring to address any inquiries. Perusing the inquiries once is a decent method to prepare your psyche dynamic and to break down and analyze each question. When you've perused the inquiries you are prepared to re read the test questions and this time perusing every conceivable response for each question. Without perusing every conceivable answer and picking an answer before you are aware of such are conceivable, you are setting yourself up to botch the chance to discover an answer that might be better than the one you've picked. When rehashing test questions and perusing every conceivable answer it's a decent certainty sponsor to check ââ¬Å"sure thingâ⬠answers first. At the point when you are unhesitatingly addressing questions you know are valid, you are bound to have more certainty wandering onto questions you may not make certain of yet. After you've denoted the entirety of your ââ¬Å"sure thingâ⬠answers, you may need to rehash the inquiries and answers a second or third an ideal opportunity to survey of any inquiries you may now realize the responses to since you've cycled back on more than one occasion. Simply after you've denoted the entirety of your ââ¬Å"sure thingâ⬠answers will you start to need to search for intimations to respond to the rest of the inquiries you are as yet uncertain of. Focusing on linguistic prompts help as a rule just as isolated setting (different decision addresses that may expect you to complete a sentence) or contrasting arrangements (various decision addresses that may request that you distinguish some falsehood, or questions that contain twofold negatives to befuddle the test taker). In situations when you don't know of an answer and there is a possibility for ââ¬Å"all of the aboveâ⬠, it is your most secure wagered to picked this answer. Likewise when managing numbers, for example, rates in measurements, it is normally insightful if all else fails to picked the center term as a potential answer. On the off chance that you are as yet uncertain of your answer start by disposing of clearly wrong answers first and kill answers from that point. The third, last and most likely hardest test to ace is the paper test. Perusing and seeing all headings and rules is basic, particularly in paper tests. Much of the time when you initially start an article test you have numerous thoughts drifting around including significant realities or potentially potential thoughts you need to communicate in your paper, since exposition tests require your full focus it's consistently a smart thought to write down potential thoughts you may have so you won't overlook them and your psyche is liberated from superfluous mess. It's in every case best to begin with the simplest inquiries first to pick up force in your test and to kick off your imaginative reasoning procedure. A significant part of exposition tests is as far as possible you are given, It's anything but difficult to lose rack of time anyway not completing you entire article or communicating your significant focuses in your paper might be negative to the evaluation of your article. A decent method to guarantee you have the opportunity to save is finding a steady speed. Another path is to dismiss your presentation as well as decision sections a d bounce directly into the point(s) you are attempting to make. Utilize strong proof to help your contentions/focuses and attempt to stay away from genuine beliefs in you paper. In any sort of test circumstances, may it be from the ones investigated above or another, a few hints are useful in each test circumstance. Ensuring your name is on your test may appear as though an adolescent point to make yet i t additionally shouldn't be the explanation behind you test to be tossed out or given a bombing grade. Understanding a perusing all bearings is a point that can never be focused on enough just as understanding the idea of each sort of inquiry that is being posed. Beginning with the simplest inquiries and working your way to the hardest is a decent method to oversee time just as give yourself the additional increase in certainty expected to shake off a bad case of nerves during a test. Never re-think yourself except if you are certain beyond a shadow of a doubt your subsequent answer is correct. Ordinarily when you re-think your first impulse it is out of dread of your test not ââ¬Å"looking rightâ⬠or out of test tension making you over dissect your answers. Get explanation on the off chance that you are uncertain about something however make certain to just approach your teacher for explanation, talking with a schoolmate can be viewed as cheating. Take on a steady speed to maintain a strategic distance from reckless mix-ups and in the event that you have additional time, use it to twofold check your answers. By following these means you make certain to have a substantially more lovely and loosening up test taking experience.

Critique Oedipus Rex
Yair Lopez Prof. Madara 2/27/2012 Section 07 Critique of Oedipus Rex Is Oedipus Rex one of the most significant bits of writing ever? This Athenian catastrophe was composed by Sophocles and was first acted in 449 BC. This piece is about a lord named Oedipus who over the span of the story discovers that he slaughtered his dad and wedded his mother.I delighted in a ton of parts of this story particularly when he settled on the choice you leave Corinth since he was told about the prescience and when he was stressed over the Thebeââ¬â¢s residents and needed to do anything conceivable to end their misery; anyway I was not very amped up for the closure of the story. The Story started with Oedipus being encircled by Thebesââ¬â¢s residents who were enduring a result of a plague that was attacking their domain. All together for the plague to be gone a prophet said that the killer of Laius must be driven out.In a long journey to discover Laiusââ¬â¢s killer Tiresias, a visually impaire d prophet, uncovers to Oedipus that he is the one that slaughtered Laius, who is his dad, and wedded Jocasta, his mom. At the point when they at long last discovered that the prediction was correct, Jocasta murdered herself and Oedipus took his eyes off. This would sum up most significant pieces of this exemplary piece. Something I preferred in this story is the choice of Oedipus of leaving his old neighborhood Corinth since he imagined that that way he would ensure the ones he thought who were his folks (942-957).I by and by respected this characterââ¬â¢s choice since it is difficult to leave your old neighborhood with your loved ones for their own wellbeing. In the event that I was in Oedipusââ¬â¢s quandary I truly wouldnââ¬â¢t recognized what to do. He demonstrated that he is the sort of individual that takes the necessary steps for the security of their affection ones and an individual with the attitude ought to be lauded. This is one of the occasions I enjoyed the most in this perfect work of art. Another occasion that I appreciated was the point at which he thought about his residents and needed the plague to be over to end their misery (249-320).Not such a large number of rulers are known for their mindful and thought of their own kin, however Oedipus demonstrated that he isn't the cliché merciless lord and he needed to do all that he could to end his peopleââ¬â¢s languishing. These days we have in certain nations presidents that truly care about neither the wellbeing nor the life of their residents. As I would see it, so as to be an outstanding pioneer, that individual must think about their kin jus like in the event that they were their own family and Oedipus in this is the ideal case of an excellent and noteworthy leader. With pioneers like him this world would be a superior spot. This occasion is the one I generally like about this story since we donââ¬â¢t see such a large number of lord worried about their kin like Oedipus did. In ea ch story thereââ¬â¢s a section that the peruser either doesnââ¬â¢t like or realizes that something could be better. As I would see it, the finish of the story could be much better than what it is. The story closes with Jocasta ending it all and Oedipus taking his eyes off (1475-1586). During the entire story I was considering in what capacity will the story end and was restlessly holding back to peruse the completion of the story. When I wrapped up the story I was disillusioned and I began thinking in better endings that this story could have. Each story is constantly perceived in the manner it closes in light of the fact that thatââ¬â¢s the part that the peruser is continually hanging tight for and the entire explanation we read the whole piece is to knoe the finish of all the dramatization. With this being stated, a superior completion of this story as I would like to think would change this from a decent to an extraordinary abstract piece. This was the main thing I despis ed about the story, however lamentably for me the consummation is the most significant piece of the story. In determination, Oedipus Rex is an extremely engaging and agreeable bit of writing who could be somewhat better by simply investing more energy and inventiveness. The response to the inquiry expressed in the presentation is that is unquestionably extraordinary compared to other artistic pieces, yet the best ever is a lot for it. In any case, in the event that I needs to suggest a book this one will be no ifs, ands or buts one of my contemplations, particularly to a legislator, despite the fact that I realize they will be baffled with its closure. The Future of Video Advertising is Artificial Intelligence
The Future of Video Advertising is Artificial Intelligence In the last few years, the popularity of video advertising has experienced tremendous growth.According to the Wall Street Journal, viewers are spending more than 1 billion hours watching videos on YouTube every single day.Whatâs more, these figures are from 2017, which means that the number is way higher today. In addition, Cisco predicted that video would account for 80% of all content consumed on the internet in 2019.With such figures, it is no surprise that marketers and advertisers are doing away with traditional display ads and putting greater focus on video.According to a survey by Wyzowl, 81% of businesses are investing in video advertising. It is also estimated that the digital video advertising industry in the United States will grow by double digits between 2018 and 2021, reaching about $22 billion by 2021, according to eMarketer. Video statistics on social platforms. Source: Digital Information WorldDespite the growing popularity of video advertising, the traditional method of video advertising has not been very efficient. For a moment, letâs picture what normally happens during the production of a video advert.A video editor is given a script and thousands of shots from which he or she is supposed to come up with a 20 or 30 second ad targeted at viewers within a certain geographic region.Working the whole day, the video editor goes through the hours of footage, discarding most of it and piecing the best parts together to come up with an amazing video. The client approves the video and it is published on various social platforms. So far so good. But then trouble comes in. The internet has turned the world into a global village, and in a few hours, the video, which was targeted at a specific region, say the United States, is being viewed all over the world.Since it is only tailored for a specific market, it doe s not achieve its intended purpose in the rest of the world. There is even a risk that it might send the wrong message in some markets. This method of video advertising is not very efficient.Today, a lot of businesses are producing lots of video content, and it is estimated that by 2021, 17,000 hours of video marketing content will be published every single second. In addition, there is the issue of audience apathy, where majority of consumers have seen so much marketing content that they have become apathetic to it.According to a study by Havas, 60% of consumers view the content published by brands as nothing more than clutter. In such an environment where you video marketing content has to stand out from millions of hours of video content and catch the attention of consumers who are increasingly becoming apathetic to marketing content, the traditional way of doing things wonât cut.In order for your video marketing content to make an impact, not only do you need a more efficient way of producing video content, you also need the ability to analyze granular data and understand what your audience needs and how to deliver it to them. This is where artificial intelligence comes in. So far, the impact of artificial intelligence in the digital marketing space has been profound.Artificial intelligence has offered businesses an abundance of robust data, tangible campaign results, and actionable user insights, effectively revolutionizing the ability of brands to target their audiences. In addition, with all this data to guide marketers, artificial intelligence has also made it possible for brands to tailor their content and online experience to the individual interests and preferences of customers in a scale that was unimaginable before.Just like it transformed other areas of digital marketing, artificial intelligence is also transforming the video marketing space.Once again, letâs picture the production of a video advertisement.Like before, a script is created, but this time round, instead of shooting a single video, several iterations of the video are shot. In one version, the actor changes his clothing. In another, they use a person of color as the actor. In another, they replace the actor with an actress. In yet another, they change the props to depict a different culture. After shooting the footage, instead of passing it on to a video editor, it is passed on to an artificially intelligent algorithm, which comes up with several 30 second ads. Each of the ads has been specifically tailored to the interests and preferences of different audiences, based on data gathered from the audience.Whatâs more, all this only takes a few seconds, rather than the whole day. Once it is time to publish the video, instead of having the same video shown to all audiences, the algorithm analyzes user data and determines which version of the video should be shown to the user, based on their specific interests and preferences. For instance, African-American users might b e shown a version of the video where the actor is African-American.For female viewers, they might be shown a version of the video where the star is a woman.Sometimes, this level of customization and personalization might even be extended beyond personal data. For instance, if the viewer is watching the video at night, the conditions within the video might be adjusted to depict nighttime as well.Similarly, if the user is in a location that is experiencing rainfall, the video can be adjusted such that there is rain in the video as well. This is something that can be easily achieved using geolocating weather scripts.Aside from customizing and personalizing the video to match individual users, the algorithm can also access video analytics as they flow in and make edits to the video in real-time.For instance, if most viewers stop watching the video at a certain point, the algorithm can edit out this part and test the engagement metrics after the part is edited out. This leads to higher enga gement, compared to a situation where marketers have to wait weeks before they can analyze and act on video analytics. This might sound like something from a fantasy world, but it is actually the future of personalized video advertising, where content is tailored for individuals rather than the masses.Artificial intelligence has not only made it possible for brands to know as much as they can about their customers, it has also made it possible to make use of this data to provide engaging, relevant and highly personal experiences to customers. In turn, users are more likely to click on and respond to video content when the content is specifically tailored for them.Savvy agencies have realized this and are making artificial intelligence and integral part of their video marketing efforts.WHY AI IS THE FUTURE OF VIDEO ADVERTISING?Marketers are just starting to integrate artificial intelligence into their video marketing efforts, but you can bet that this trend is here to stay and will onl y grow bigger. Some of the reasons why the future of video advertising lies in artificial intelligence include:AI Allows Creation of More Personalized Video ContentToday, online users have become accustomed to a personalized online experience. When advertisers reach out to you via email, they address you by your name. When you log on to Facebook, you view advertisements that reflect your interests. When you go on YouTube, you receive video recommendations based on the kind of videos you like watching. When you go to your favorite ecommerce sites, you receive recommendations based on the kind on items you have bought before.Because of this, users have come to expect a personalized experience on all online platforms, and it is therefore natural that the same kind of experience should be extended to video content. Artificial intelligence allows brands to do just that. The greatest benefit of personalization is that it boosts engagement and helps counter audience apathy.Video content that s eems to speak directly to customers is more likely to elicit an emotional response from the customer and drive them to take the preferred action, whether that action is buying a product or service or subscribing to a newsletter, or even simply sharing the video. This in turn makes your video marketing efforts more effective and increases their ROI.AI Allows Gathering of Customer Data and InsightsPersonalization is impossible without knowing the individual. If you donât know me and what I like, there is no way you can create content that is tailored to my individual interests and preferences. Therefore, brands need a way to gather customer data prior to producing video content. Artificial intelligence allows them to do just that. One of the greatest benefits of the digital world is that everything users do on the internet leaves a trail of digital breadcrumbs that represent a wealth of data about the user.Artificial intelligence tools have made it possible to not only gather this weal th of data, but to also analyze it and gain great insights about the usersâ interests and online habits. In so doing, these AI tools save brands from having to spend weeks and months conducting customer research. The more data gathered by these AI tools, the more brands refine their knowledge of their customers, which in turn allows them to refine their video content to match the interests of the customer and promote relevant video content to them.Aside from helping brands produce more customized video content, this data can also be used to guide the overall video marketing strategy.AI Allows Businesses to Test the ROI of Their Video Marketing StrategyVery often, an effective video marketing strategy will require a significant investment, both in terms of money and time.Because of this, many small businesses and brands are reluctant to make a significant investment in video marketing unless they are completely certain that it will bring a return on investment.AI tools provide a way for small businesses and brands to wet their feet without making a significant investment before going all in.With AI analytics, they can test their video marketing strategy and get a better idea of expected outcomes before they make a more significant investment in video marketing. Before the rise of artificial intelligence, it was virtually impossible for brands to do this.Once brands have a good idea of what results to expect from their video marketing strategy, they will be more willing to make allocate a more sizeable portion of their digital marketing budget to video marketing. In addition, artificial intelligence makes it possible for brands to come up with a few pieces of content and test them to find which ones their audience are more responsive to, as well as the platforms where their audiences are more engaged.Once they receive their results, they can then optimize their video marketing plan to only focus on videos that their audience are most responsive to and the platfor ms that drive the highest engagement.Artificial intelligence also provides real-time updates, which makes it easier for brands to optimize their video marketing even after the campaign goes live.AI Improves Customer Experience and Increases ConversionsToday, about one third of the time users spend online is spent on watching videos. At the same time, a lot of users view any videos that are not relevant to them as a nuisance. If you want to improve your customers experience when interacting with your video content and increase your conversions from video content, you need to make sure that all video content shown to users is highly relevant to them.Artificial intelligence provides you with an opportunity to do just that.If you are anything like me, I believe you have been caught in a YouTube loop at least once. You go on YouTube to view one video, but then you end up spending one more hour on YouTube viewing the recommended videos.YouTube uses artificially intelligent algorithms to re commend videos that are relevant to you and matched up to your interests, which is why you end up spending more time on YouTube than you intended to.While we cannot be sure exactly what system YouTube algorithms use to rank recommended videos, you can use artificial intelligence tools in a similar manner to show video content that is relevant to your audience, which will in turn make them more receptive to your marketing messages. When you serve customers with video ads that are similar to videos the customer has previously engaged with, or video ads that are related to products or services the customer has previously searched for, the customer is less likely to perceive these ads as a nuisance. And the best part about this is that it also increases your likelihood of making a sale. Customers are more likely to purchase a product or service after seeing a video about it compared to when they have only read about it.Video content makes your products and services come to life in a way t hat written content cannot.According to Social Media Today, consumers are 64% more likely to purchase a product or service after watching a video about the product or service.Cross platform video promotion can also be enhanced through artificial intelligence. With tools such as Adext AI, brands can ensure that every customized video gets to its target audience in their preferred platform. All you need to do is to connect your video to this tool and it will determine the platform where this video is most likely to perform best and automatically promote the video on that platform.Such AI driven video targeting allows businesses and brands to boost conversions at low costs.AI Makes Video Production More EfficientIf you want your video marketing strategy to be effective, it is important to ensure that you produce high quality video content. However, producing high quality video content requires investments in talent, time, and other video production costs.Sometimes, these costs can be mass ive, and companies with small budgets might find it a bit of a challenge to produce high quality video content.Fortunately, small businesses and brands without the talent or budget to maintain a fully-fledged in-house production team can take advantage of artificial intelligence to produce high quality video content. With such tools, someone can easily create high quality videos even if they have no knowledge of video editing and design.Even for those with an in-house production team, the whole process of creating video content becomes more efficient when using artificial intelligence tools.Normally, the process of creating video content is very time-consuming. Editors have to wade through hours of footage, trying to find the perfect shots. This process takes several hours for a small video.Sometimes, it can take even weeks. To help make the process a bit more convenient, many video creators have to manually tag the video footage with attributes that make it easier to sort through the footage. While this saves them some time, it is still a time-intensive process. All the time spent tagging footage could have been spent in the actual development of the final content. With intelligent tools such as Adobe Sensei, however, video content creators can skip this time-consuming process. With its video auto tag service, Adobe Sensei automatically tags each segment of video with attributes that describe the segment â" attributes such as actions, locations, faces, colors, products, and logos â" and creates a searchable taxonomy that makes it easy to find the right video file or the right cut of the video in a matter of seconds.Aside from helping with the technical aspects of the production process, AI tools also use big data and analytics to ensure you are producing the right kind of content. When producing video content, video content creators try to aim for video content that has a high likelihood of performance. However, predicting future performance of a video is not easy .You could try to look at other videos that performed well and try to guess what made them perform well, or you could follow your instincts.Unfortunately, none of these two methods is effective or reliable. You need a better way of predicting whether a video will perform well. Once again, AI can help with this.AI tools have the ability to analyze available data to understand the kinds of content different audiences are more likely to respond to, and then help you in creating exactly this kind of content. For instance, Adobe Sensei has a service known as Video Ad AI which reads the video, audio, and other information available in a video and identifies demographic segments that are more likely to engage with the video, as well as the platforms where the video is likely to perform well. This makes it easier for a marketer to match a video with the right platform for promoting the video. It also gives a watchability score to show how likely people are to watch the video.Another such tool is SimpleShow, which also uses big data to understand what kinds of content users are more likely to respond to.The tool then uses these insights to help marketers build videos that people are more likely to engage with. The best part is that the tool takes out the technical aspects of video production, so that anyone can use it to produce amazing video content â" without having to go through the process of learning how to be a graphic designer or video editor.Other tools even have the ability to go through hours of video footage to identify the best footage to use in your final video, saving you all the hassle of going through endless video footage.WRAPPING UPArtificial intelligence has already revolutionized different elements of digital marketing, and now, video marketing is next. The use of artificial intelligence in video marketing will make it possible for brands to gather data about their customers and tailor their content to the specific interests and preferences of each ind ividual customer, which will in turn increase customer engagement with video content and boost conversions. It will also make the video production process much more efficient and provide businesses with a more reliable way of measuring the ROI of their video marketing efforts. With all these benefits, there is no doubt that AI will continue being an essential tool in the future of video advertising.

Biography of Alexander II, Russias Reformist Tsar
Alexander II (born Alexander Nikolaevich Romanov; April 29, 1818 ââ¬â March 13, 1881) was a nineteenth-century Russian emperor. Under his rule, Russia moved towards reform, most notably in the abolition of serfdom. However, his assassination cut these efforts short. Fast Facts: Alexander II Full Name:à Alexander Nikolaevich Romanov Occupation: Emperor of RussiaBorn: April 29, 1818 in Moscow, RussiaDied: March 13, 1881 in Saint Petersburg, RussiaKey Accomplishments: Alexander II earned a reputation for reform and a willingness to bring Russia into the modern world. His greatest legacy was the freeing of Russian serfs in 1861.Quote: The vote, in the hands of an ignorant man, without either property or self respect, will be used to the damage of the people at large; for the rich man, without honor or any kind of patriotism, will purchase it, and with it swamp the rights of a free people.â⬠Early Life Alexander was born in Moscow in 1818 as the first son and heir of Tsar Nicholas I and his wife Charlotte, a Prussian princess. His parentsââ¬â¢ marriage was, luckily (and somewhat unusually) for a purely political union, a happy one, and Alexander had six siblings who survived childhood. From birth, Alexander was given the title of Tsesarevich, which was traditionally given to the heir to the Russian throne. (The similar-sounding title tsarevich applied to any sons of a tsar, including non-Russians, and ceased being used by Romanov rulers in 1797). The upbringing and early education of Alexander was not one that seemed conducive to create a great reformer. Indeed, the opposite, if anything, was true. At the time, the court and political atmosphere was intensely conservative under his fatherââ¬â¢s authoritarian rule. Dissent from any corner, regardless of rank, was severely punishable. Even Alexander, who was the darling of his family and of all Russia, would have had to be careful. Nicholas, however, was nothing if not practical in the upbringing of his successor. He had suffered from a dull, frustrating education as a ââ¬Å"spareâ⬠to the throne (his immediate predecessor was not his father, but rather his brother Alexander I) that had left him without any desire to take up the title. He was determined to not let his son suffer the same fate and provided him with tutors that included reformer Mikhail Speransky and romantic poet Vasily Zhukovsky, plus a military instructor, General Karl Merder. This combination led to Alexander being well-prepared and more liberal than his father. At the age of sixteen, Nicholas created a ceremony in which Alexander formally swore allegiance to the autocracy as the successor. Marriage and Early Reign While on tour in Western Europe in 1839, Alexander was in search of a royal wife. His parents preferred Princess Alexandrine of Baden and arranged for the twenty-one-year-old tsesarevich to meet her. The meeting was unimpressive, and Alexander declined to pursue the match. He and his entourage made an unplanned stop at the court of the Grand Duke of Hesse, Ludwig II, where he met and became smitten with the dukeââ¬â¢s daughter, Marie. Despite some early objections from his mother and a long engagement because of Marieââ¬â¢s youth (she was only fourteen when they met), Alexander and Marie married on April 28, 1841. Although the protocols of court life did not appeal to Marie, the marriage was a happy one, and Alexander leaned on Marie for support and advice. Their first child, the Grand Duchess Alexandra, was born in August 1842, but died of meningitis at the age of six. In September 1843, the couple had their son and Alexanderââ¬â¢s heir, Nicholas, followed in 1845 by Alexander (the future Tsar Alexander III), Vladimir in 1847, and Alexei in 1850. Even after Alexander took mistresses, their relationship remained close. Nicholas I died of pneumonia in 1855, and Alexander II succeeded to the throne at the age of 37. His early reign was dominated by the fallout from the Crimean War and cleaning up overwhelming corruption at home. Thanks to his education and personal leanings, he began pushing forward a more reformist, liberal set of policies than the iron-fisted authoritarianism of his predecessors. Reformer and Liberator Alexanderââ¬â¢s signature reform was the liberation of the serfs, which he began working towards almost immediately after coming to the throne. In 1858, he toured the country to encourage the nobility ââ¬â who were reluctant to give up their reliance on serfs ââ¬â to back the reform. The Emancipation Reform of 1861 formally abolished serfdom throughout the Russian Empire, giving 22 million serfs the rights of full citizens. His reforms were not limited to this by any means. Alexander ordered the reform of the Russian military, from enforcing conscription for all social classes (not just the peasantry) to improving officer education to creating districts for more efficient administration. An elaborate and detailed bureaucracy worked to reform the judicial system and make the system simpler and more transparent. At the same time, his government created local districts that took on many duties of self-governance. Despite his zeal for reform, Alexander was no democratic ruler. The Moscow Assembly proposed a constitution, and in response, the tsar dissolved the assembly. He fervently believed that diluting the power of the autocracy with representatives of the people would destroy the populaceââ¬â¢s quasi-religious view of the tsar as a divinely-ordained, unquestioned ruler. When separatist movements, particularly in Poland and Lithuania, threatened to erupt, he suppressed them harshly, and later in his reign, he began to crack down on liberal teachings at universities. However, he supported efforts in Finland to increase its autonomy. An assassination attempt in April 1866 may have contributed to Alexanderââ¬â¢s shift away from his earlier liberal reforms. Assassination and Legacy Alexander was the target of several assassination attempts, including the one in 1866. In April 1879, a would-be assassin named Alexander Soloviev shot at the tsar as he walked; the shooter missed and was sentenced to death. Later that year, other revolutionaries attempted a more elaborate plot, orchestrating a railway explosion ââ¬â but their information was incorrect and they missed the tsarââ¬â¢s train. In February 1880, the tsarââ¬â¢s enemies came closer than they ever had before to achieving their goal when Stephan Khalturin, from the same radical group that bombed the train, managed to detonate a device in the Winter Palace itself, killing and wounding dozens and causing damage to the palace, but the imperial family was awaiting a late arrival and was not in the dining room. On March 13, 1881, Alexander went, as was his custom, to a military roll call. He rode in a bulletproof carriage gifted to him by Napoleon III, which saved his life during the first attempt: a bomb thrown under the carriage as it passed by. Guards attempted to evacuate Alexander quickly. Another conspirator, a radical revolutionary named Ignacy Hryniewiecki, got close enough to throw a bomb directly at the fleeing emperorââ¬â¢s feet. The bomb horrifically wounded Alexander, as well as others in the vicinity. The dying tsar was brought to the Winter Palace, where he was given his last rites and died minutes later. Alexander left behind a legacy of slow but steady reform and began the modernization of Russia ââ¬â but his death stopped what would have been one of the biggest reforms: a set of planned changes that Alexander had approved and spoke of as a step towards a true constitution ââ¬â something Romanov rulers had always resisted. The announcement was set to be made around March 15, 1881. But Alexanderââ¬â¢s successor chose instead to retaliate for the assassination with severe setbacks to civil liberties, including arrests of dissenters and anti-Semitic pogroms that would last for the rest of the Romanov era. Iger. ââ¬Å"We are confident the Company is well-positioned to deliver long-term value for our shareholders with our focus on quality content, compelling uses of technology and global asset growth. We will write a custom essay sample on Walt Disney Analyses or any similar topic only for you Order Now â⬠According to the PESTEL analysis, the Walt Disney Company has been shaped mainly with respect to social, economic and political. First, it is politically shaped because the government and lobby groups have an important role in establishing policies, requirements and competition rules. Furthermore, the local governmental rules are crucial in establishing foreign ownership for subsidiaries or business units. Alongside with the political factors, both the economic and social factors influence the group`s profitability and activity because customers and economic conditions are closely related. For instance the financial crisis of 2007 brought serious economic downturns that affected most of the activities at Disney 11 parks. The group is also dependent on oil prices, inflation and interest rates that might affect exchange rates. Social trends influence the company strategic decisions, mainly due to demographic changes, attitudes or certain fashion cycles. According to PESTEL, technological factors decide the competitive actors in the industry because advances in technology shape manufacturing conditions and operations, can increase capacity and improve quality. Furthermore, the environmental factors affect the activity of the company due to weather conditions that can be negative for the park`s profitability, manufacturing prices and conditions. A SWOT analysis STENGTHSIt is the largest media and entertainment company in the world and it owns 11 theme parks and various channels Disney is one of the major Hollywood studios Disney employed 150,000 people An innovative development society: employees generate and implement ideas ââ¬â fast transfer of knowledge and expertise across the marketsGlobal Standards are highly implemented and adopted Very popular brand around the globe: high brand awareness among the people through logo and popularity Strategy of differentiation with a very diversified portfolio Experience in international operations and developmentDisney has US $62, 497, 000, 000 assets Ranked 9th in the Top 100 Global Brands of 2011 | WEAKNESSESHigh operating costsInstability in decision making: change management due to unbalances among SBUsPoor management controllingSeasonality: park occupancyWorking conditions that are poor in the production fabricsNo good customer relationship management due to innovation that demands continui tyThe target client is mostly children, no range of segmentationAccusation for sexual references in some of its animations Different welfare groups protest: religion, animal (Disney Animal Kingdom)Poor management controllingReduces number of attractions: only 16 out of 11 parks. It focuses both on core features / competencies but also on the diversity of the corporation`s portfolio. The environment is highly competitive for the Walt Disney Company, but providing operations globally enables the existence of an efficiency related to the speed the information of knowledge travels around the company from unit to unit. This one of the most important features, and, thus strengths of the core competences Disney supports, because it reduces the operational costs. Thus, the company benefits from an intensive transfer of expertise across diverse markets. By being constantly up-dated with the new technologies and innovations and by disposing of an impressive amount of knowledge, the Walt Disney Company also benefits from continuous innovation. This is fostered also by the politics of the company that allows employees the direct participation in both generating and implementing new innovative solutions across businesses. Another important strength is the experience in international operations that sustains the brand awareness and enables the development of local knowledge, which defines synergies over strategic business units along with the existent learning curve. In terms of diversity, Disney covers a portfolio of various activities with a wide-ranging interest and this structuration protects the company from different conditions and instabilities on the markets, therefore a balanced portfolio provides security. Another important strength is the fact that Disney Corporation provides a really influent Media network that allows the company share and benefit from good image communication. For instance the ESPN Radio, the Disney Television Networks that increased group profits in the first quarter of 2011 due to strong advertising, the Toon Channel and many other entertaining shows that the group broadcasts. In terms of weaknesses, the most aggressive one is the seasonality among customers related to the objective of park occupancy, which is fulfilled only during holydays and special events. This pattern makes the activity in parks more or less dependent on the seasonality. Alongside with the seasonality, another important aspect is the unbalances that occur among its SBUs in terms of profits, cash flows and operating costs. Nevertheless, this is a cause of seasonality, but it also reflects the poor management controlling at the group level. The opportunities are very large at the size of a group as Disney Corporation and if the strategic decisions are respected the company can benefit from: new markets, increase in advertising (which is also sustained by the Segmented Results of 2011), differentiation in strategy and use of new developed technologies in order to maintain innovation. One of the main treats of Disney would be to cope with the employee retention which is strongly connected to the employee performance evaluation and the way according to which the Walt Disney Company aligns its goals / strategy with its employees` needs. As customers have a direct influence over company`s profitability, it is important to maintain a good communication flow and to built ways that could provide Disney strong analysis of customer satisfaction and feedback. The Incredible Life of Marilyn Monroe Essay Example
The Incredible Life of Marilyn Monroe Essay Example The Incredible Life of Marilyn Monroe Paper The Incredible Life of Marilyn Monroe Paper Essay Topic: Life Is Beautiful ââ¬Å"I want to grow old without face-liftsâ⬠¦ I want to have the courage to be loyal to the face I have made. Sometimes I think it would be easier to avoid old age, to die young, but then you would never complete your whole life, would you? You would never wholly know yourself. â⬠(Monroe) Although this statement didnââ¬â¢t come true, Marilyn Monroe had a memorable life filled with many ups and downs. Who would think that such a successful young woman had such an unstable life? On June 1, 1926 a baby girl was born to Gladys Mortensen at 9:30 a. m. in Los Angeles, California. No one is sure who her father is because her mother was with many men at the time she got pregnant, but believe it was either Martin Edward Mortensen or Charles Gifford. Her birth name was either Norma Jeane Baker or Norma Jeane Mortensen; know to us as Marilyn Monroe. She has two older half-siblings on her mothers side that she has never met. Almost immediately after giving birth, Gladys Mortensen brought Norma to live with Ida and Albert Bolender, who raised her until she was seven years old. It isnââ¬â¢t clear why Gladys had someone else raise her little girl, but being a single mother working in the Great Depression wasnââ¬â¢t easy. Others believe she simply didnââ¬â¢t have the interest or commitment to raise a child. In 1933, after Normaââ¬â¢s 7th birthday, her mother took her back from foster care and decided that she would try raising her on her own. They never had a stable place to live and Norma wasnââ¬â¢t used to the rowdiness and all the drinking in her new home. Several months later Gladys began to be very depressed and avoid all the people around her. She was unable to deal with her life and entered a rest home and then the hospital. The rest of Normaââ¬â¢s life would now be filled with chaos since she didnââ¬â¢t have anywhere to go besides foster homes. In 1935, when Norma was nine her mother was declared legally insane. Grace McKee, Gladysââ¬â¢ best friend; applied to be Normaââ¬â¢s legal guardian. While waiting for the court to appoint a new guardian, she was sent to live in the Los Angeles Orphans Home until she was eleven. In 1937, McKee and Ervin ââ¬Å"Docâ⬠Goddard married and became Normaââ¬â¢s guardian. After six months with ââ¬Å"Aunt Graceâ⬠and family, she was sent to live with distant relatives in Compton. This was probably due to the speculations that Goddard may have attempted to molest her. At first I was waking up in the morning at the Goddardsââ¬â¢ and thinking I was still at the orphanage. Then, before I could get used to them I was with another aunt and uncle, waking up and thinking I was still at the Goddards. â⬠(Monroe 25) At age twelve she returned to Los Angeles and went to live with Grace (McKee) Goddardââ¬â¢s aunt, 58-year-old Ana Lower. ââ¬Å"She was the first person in the world I ever really lovedâ⬠¦She was the only one who loved and understood me. â⬠(Monroe 26) At the end of her ninth grade Lower had developed health problems forcing Norma to go back and live with the Goddards. During her first year of high school, Doc Goddard was being transferred to West Virginia and the family was moving too. They decided it would be best to leave Norma, and since Aunt Anaââ¬â¢s health had improved she would move back in with her. She never returned to school after beginning the second semester. In 1941 Norma became good friends with Jim Dougherty, her neighbor. They decided to begin dating even though he was five years older. After being together for six months and Norma finally reaching the legal age to marry (sixteen in the state of California at that time), they wed on June 19, 1942. Our marriage may have been in some place short of heaven, like in the minds of two older ladies, but there was no pretense in how Norma Jeane and I felt about each other once weââ¬â¢d formed that partnership. â⬠(Dougherty 28) She spent the first year of their marriage as a housewife, and then Jim joined the Merchant Marines so they moved to Catalina Island where he was statio ned. In 1944, Jim was sent to the South Pacific with the other Merchant Marines. With Jim gone she began to work at a manufacturer with Jimââ¬â¢s mother called the Radioplane Company. She worked in the ââ¬Å"dope roomâ⬠making twenty-dollars a week (the nations minimum wage). While working she was spotted by a photographer named David Convor who was taking pictures of women helping the war cause. He said that Marilyn was a ââ¬Å"photographers dream. â⬠Convor started sending her modeling jobs. Norma now had to choose between Jim and her career, she choose her career, causing them to get a divorce in 1946. She began to model in 1946 to earn some extra money. Norma had been modeling for seven years, and then decided to move to Hollywood to further pursue her career. Two years later she became a popular model with many magazines. Norma wanted to do something more with her career and enrolled in a drama class. She signed her first contract with Twentieth Century Fox on August 26, 1946 and decided to dye her hair blonde and changed her name to Marilyn Monroe. She was now making one hundred and twenty-five dollars a week. ââ¬Å"She projected an enchanting contrariness on the screen; innocent one minute, naughty the next, and always desirable. â⬠(Luce 32) In 1947 she played in her first movie, ââ¬Å"The Shocking Miss Pilgrimâ⬠. She played tiny parts in movies until the 1950ââ¬â¢s when she played a small but important role in ââ¬Å"The Asphalt Jungleâ⬠. Her role in the movie ââ¬Å"Gentlemen Prefer Blondesâ⬠brought her stardom in 1953. She then played in popular movies such as ââ¬Å"All About Eve,â⬠ââ¬Å"Gentlemen Prefer Blondes,â⬠ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t Bother to Knock,â⬠ââ¬Å"The Seventh Year Itch,â⬠ââ¬Å"Some Like it Hot,â⬠and ââ¬Å"How to Marry a Millionaire. â⬠Her first actual lead role was in ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t Bother to Knockâ⬠Marilyn was in the first issue of Playboy, it sold 54,175 issues. This helped make her the premier sex symbol of the fifties. After dating famous baseball star Joe DiMaggio for two years, they married on January 14, 1954. While they were on their honeymoon in Tokyo, Japan she preformed for the troops. Her presence almost caused a riot because it was during the war. This whole event made Joe uncomfortable and they decided to divorce on October 27, 1954, after nine months. Itââ¬â¢s said that they divorced because of a ââ¬Å"conflict between careers. â⬠They stayed close friends after their divorce. The ââ¬Å"Seven Year Itchâ⬠was being shot in New York in 1955, thousands of fans gathered on a street corner at 2:00 a. m. to watch and cheer as they filmed and photographed the famous skirt blowing scene due to the air from a subway vent. Hundreds of professional photographers came to watch Marilyn pose. She continued to pose for more than two hours just for her fans to get a glimpse. She then moved from Hollywood to New York to pursue a serious acting career. In 1956 Marilyn started her own motion picture company. ââ¬Å"Hollywoodââ¬â¢s a place where they will pay you a thousand dollars for a kiss, and fifty cents for your soul. â⬠(Monroe) In 1957 Monroe became pregnant by Arthur Miller and miscarries her baby and decided to take a break from acting. She then returned and started in ââ¬Å"Some Like it Hotâ⬠and went on to win a Golden Globe award for her performance. She becomes pregnant by Miller in 1959 and miscarries again. Marilyn then married for the third time on June 29, 1956 to famous playwright Arthur Miller. In 1961, Arthur wrote a special part just for Marilyn in the film ââ¬Å"The Misfits. â⬠This would be Marilynââ¬â¢s last movie. They then divorced on January 20, 1962. . ââ¬Å"On-screen, she was usually happy and energetic; off-screen she was a complex, often unhappy young woman, obsessed with becoming a serious actress and uncomfortable with a public image that had become impossible to control. â⬠(Unknown 36) During 1962 Marilyn met John F. Kennedy. A relationship began to grow between Marilyn and John F. Kennedy. Later that year, Marilyn moved to a new home in Brentwood. She choose this home to be closer to JFK and her doctor. Marilynââ¬â¢s doctor was delivering therapy for her abuse of sleeping pills. Marilyn had overdosed on sleeping pills before and had to be revived. She also had her stomach pumped for drugs frequently over the past few years. ââ¬Å"Sometimes [fame] makes you a little bit sad because youââ¬â¢d like to meet somebody kind of on face value. Itââ¬â¢s nice to be included in peopleââ¬â¢s fantasies, but you also like to be accepted for your own sake. (Monroe 36) Bobby Kennedy started to gain an attraction to Marilyn but she had her heart set on John Kennedy. John would go and visit her at her house and they would see each other at the Lawfords. They were caught by one of Kennedyââ¬â¢s advisor making love in a bathroom. They also talked frequently on the phone. Marilyn has hoped that JFK would divor ce Jackie Kennedy. She had told her friends she imagined herself as the first lady. In April of 1962 Marilyn began to work on the movie ââ¬Å"Somethingââ¬â¢s Got to Give. â⬠Monroe was fired from this movie due to a production disaster and the movie was never finished. She then performed for John F. Kennedyââ¬â¢s birthday at Madison Square Garden. Marilyn had to be sown into the dress that she would wear that night when she sang to JFK. He thanked Marilyn for singing to him in such a ââ¬Å"sweet and wholesome way. â⬠During the summer of 1962 Marilyn was told to stop all contact and relationships with the Kennedy brothers. Marilyn was destroyed and her heart was shattered. She became extremely depressed and wanted to confess about her relationships with the brothers. The Kennedyââ¬â¢s paid her a million dollars to keep it a secret. Marilynââ¬â¢s career was said to be at the highest ever and she was working on a number of new film products that were thought to be very successful. She was extremely excited about working on these. The weekend before her death she spent the weekend in Lake Tahoe with her second husband Joe DiMaggio. There was a rumor that they had planned to re-marry. Since the Kennedy brothers wanted to be sure Marilyn didnââ¬â¢t say anything to the press, they sent people to follow her and DiMaggio. The following weekend after Lake Tahoe with DiMaggio, she was found dead in her Brentwood house. She had over dosed on fifty Nembutal sleeping pills that her doctor had prescribed the day before. Marilyn committed suicide at 3:50 a. m. on August 5, 1962 at the age of 36. Many believe she was murdered because she knew too much, but no one has been able to prove this to be true. Marilyn Monroe was a beautiful and talented person, itââ¬â¢s a shame that her life came to end when she was so young and at such a high point in her career. ââ¬Å"The curves, blonde hair, and enigmatic pout were part of Marilyn Monroeââ¬â¢s glamorous yet wistful appeal. Combined with her comedic talent in such films as ââ¬Å"Some Like it Hot,â⬠they made her an American legend. â⬠(Unknown 36) She is now the most written about film star in history and itââ¬â¢s obvious why. A Step-by-Step Guide to Filing Your First Taxes
A Step-by-Step Guide to Filing Your First Taxes Tax time can be super overwhelming. How can you possibly figure out what you need to do and somehow manage to pull it off without melting into a pile of despair (or committing some kind of inadvertent fraud?). Itââ¬â¢s actually fairly simple. Here, weââ¬â¢ll lay out the basic steps so you can file without fear youââ¬â¢re missing something important. 1. Get organized. This is really half the battle. The IRS is all about documents. Once you receive your W2 from your workplace, or your 1099-MISC if youââ¬â¢ve worked as an independent contractor, be sure to store it somewhere safe and easily accessible. If you get other statements, like savings account interest, student loan interest, or investment income summaries, put those in the same safe place. You might also have a proof of health insurance or records of contributions to an IRA to add to your pile.2. Determine if you need to file, and and how.If youââ¬â¢re a U.S. citizen and you meet the IRSââ¬â¢s filing requiremen ts for income, then yes, you do need to file. Then youââ¬â¢ll want to figure out what your ââ¬Å"filing statusâ⬠is. Will you be filing jointly with your spouse or separately? Can you count as ââ¬Å"head of household?â⬠Are you a dependent on someone elseââ¬â¢s return? Can you claim dependents of your own?3. Ask for help early. If youââ¬â¢re at all confused with these early stages, get someone to help- a parent, or a mentor, or a professional. They can help you figure out based on your particulars which form you need to file or whether you are eligible to file electronically.4. Pick a medium.Decide whether you will carry through on your own- either on paper or electronically, alone or with the aid of a software program or professional. If you made less than $52k last year, you qualify to receive free tax help with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. Check out TaxACT, TurboTax, eSmart Tax, etc. to get a sense of what they can do for you.5. Deduct e xpenses.Youââ¬â¢ll have to figure out whether itââ¬â¢s best for you to itemize your deductions or claim the standard deductible. But either way, make sure you donââ¬â¢t leave any stone unturned in this department. Write off state and local sales taxes, student loan interest payments, child care credits, job search expenses, charitable contributions, and things like the Earned Income credit.6. Get it done.Donââ¬â¢t procrastinate. Itââ¬â¢s best not to rush, so make sure youââ¬â¢ve left yourself plenty of time before April 15à to get this done right.7. Check your math.If you did it all on your own, make sure to have someone you trust to look over your tax returns before filing. It may even be possible to have a tax attorney do this for you for free.Good luck, and we hope for many happy returns in your future!

Controversy Analysis Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words
Controversy Analysis - Essay Example There are presently very violent military scenario games with some depicting ancient battles, a development that has led to the following thesis question: Are video games responsible for youth Violence in America? This essay will look at the two arguments on this topic; one is support and the other against, with reference to studies and relevant literature on the thesis question. Video games as we know them today, traces their origin from the start of 1950s when computer engineers and academicians began the design of simple games and artificial intelligence programs in their respective computer science studies. The popularity of video games however, hit the mainstream in the 1970s and 80s when home computers became available. From the 80s to present times, several generations of video games have been developed with Xbox One and PlayStation 4 from Sonny being the latest 8 generation games. As video games evolved, so did the technology and story lines behind them. Presently, there are games in all aspects of life from business to military combats with the latter being most popular among enthusiasts. Violence among youths on the other hand, has been around even before the invention of video games but the information age has seen new style of aggression among the youth (Levesque and Roger, 51). This has prompted analysts to establish if there could be a correlat ion between video games and contemporary youth violence given the many hours young people spend playing these games. So could there be a relationship between these two phenomena and is so, how? If not, what is the evidence of the lack of relationship? Roanna Cooper and Marc Zimmerman in their article, highlight youth violence as a significant public health issue with youth homicide among African-Americans aged between 14 and 24 years, being very high. Other than the Columbine tragedy that made headlines in 1999 when 12 people died

Women in general management Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Women in general management - Essay Example à The Goodpaster article tries to outline some of the ethical issues that general managers confront in their location and the organizations. The issue of affirmative action is very common with many Managers, and this leaves them in an awkward position due to pressure emanating from within and outside the organization. Because of this, the article notes that managers need a more orderly way of thinking through the moral implications of policy decision. The above mission statement shows that women are capable of delivering given the favourable atmosphere. However, many societies and corporate environment donââ¬â¢t allow women to scale higher because of the negative perception of, ââ¬Å"they canââ¬â¢t do." This has for over the decades subordinated the position of women in the corporate environment and gave men the chance to enjoy the opportunities. A good manager is one who weighs the available options and bases the actions on the policies that the organization has set. Simila rly, the actions that a manager resorts to must comply with the set laws such as ensuring affirmative action and implementing where it is due. Doing this will ensure that the decision passed by the general manager respects the rights of others, keeps promises and contracts, obeys laws, are fair and prevents harming others.Additionally, general managers can ensure they overcome the dilemma that makes them discriminate against women in leadership by following the three avenues of critical thinking as discussed in Goodpaster article. Enzymatic Functioning in Bromelain from Pineapple Juice
Enzymatic Functioning in Bromelain from Pineapple Juice William Nguyen Introduction An enzyme is a biological catalyst that accelerates specific chemical reactions. It converts substrates into specific products. Most enzymes are proteins and hence have a three-dimensional structure of folded polypeptide chains. Enzymes have an optimal temperature and pH range in which they function most effectively. If changes occur that remove the enzyme out of this range it may not function effectively. This principle forms the basis of this experimental design where the increasing temperature results in the denaturing of the enzymes found in bromelain and thus lowering its catalytic effectiveness. Bromelain is a protein extract present in the fruit, leaves and stems of pineapple plants (Ananas comosus). Although it is present in all parts of the pineapple plant, the stem is the most bromelain rich part that also makes it the most common commercial source of bromelain (Rowan, Buttle Barrett, 1990, p.869-875)1. The crude aqueous extract from the pineapple fruit is known as bromelain. It is in fact a mixture of different thiolendopeptidases and other components like phosphatases, glucosidases, peroxidases, cellulases, glycoproteins, carbohydrates and protease inhibitors (Maurer, 2001, p.1234-1245)2. It is also known that the enzymes in the bromelain extract begin to denature when heated over 80à °C (Jutamongkon Charoerein, 2010, p943-948)3. Since bromelain is essentially a mixture composed of many different enzymes, its substrate spectrum is very broad. It extends from synthetic low molecular amides and dipeptides up to high molecular substrates such as fibrin, gelatin, casein and bradykinin (Cooreman, 1978, p.107-121)4. Pineapples are an excellent source of the trace element manganese which acts as an essential cofactor for many of the enzymes found in bromelain. In addition, thiamine also acts as a cofactor in enzymatic reactions central to energy production in bromelain (Joy, 2010, p.67 0-686)5. Historically, bromelain has been extracted and utilised for medicinal purposes by the natives of South and Central America. In modern society, bromelain has been proven to be effective at tenderising meat and as such, is sold commercially as powdered meat tenderisers. It has also earned universal acceptability as a phytotherapeutical drug because of its history of safe use and no side effects. In 1972, conclusive evidence that bromelain prevents aggregation of blood platelets was reported by Heinicke et al (1972, p.844-845)6. Bromelain also displays an anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect on soft tissue injuries especially in rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. It has also been found to dramatically reduce post-operative swelling and pain due to these properties (Leipner, Iten Saller, 2001, p.779-789)7. Additionally, bromelain applied topically as a cream in a lipid base has shown beneficial characteristics in the debridement of eschar from severe burns and in the acceleratio n of healing. It has been commercially approved in Europe and sold under the trade name NexoBrid (Hauck, Chang Klein, 1983, p.124-134)8. Aim and Hypothesis This experiment aims to qualitatively identify the enzyme functioning found in commercially sold canned pineapple juice using background information provided by previous experiments. The rate at which gelatin is degraded in this experiment by the bromelain provides an indication of the rate of enzyme activity. The fresh pineapple sample is known to be rich in bromelain and as such, will hypothetically result in a significant amount of gelatin degradation. Boiling the pineapple juice sample over 80à °C will result in the denaturing of enzymes and should display little to no degradation of the gelatin. The canned sample in question may not display any degradation as it has undergone processing that may have disturbed the natural functioning of the enzymes in bromelain. Materials 15 test tubes 12 petri dishes 3 test tube racks 3 metal tongs 3 plastic bottles 1 thermometer 1 timer 1 macropipette 1 straw Hot water baths (35oC, 45oC, 50oC, 60oC and 90-100oC) 1 stirring rod 1 razor 1 ruler 1 fine black marker 1 water bath 1 electronic balance 1 pineapple 1 pineapple juice bottle 100g gelatin powder Methods Part A: Determining the degree of enzymatic functioning in canned pineapple juice Preparation phase/Pre-lab Place gelatin and hot water into 250mL jug and mix with stirring rod until gelatin has dissolved Pour equal amounts into 12 labelled petri dishes and place in the cool room to set for a day Make 3 pits in each dish by extracting gelatin using a straw when setting has complete Draw, measure and record the diameter of the pit made using a black marker on to the bottom of a petri dish Repeat step 4 for all petri dishes Buy a can of pineapple juice and extract 15mL of the juice into a plastic bottle labelled canned pineapple juice Purchase a fresh pineapple and cut into slices using Juice all pineapple slices and boil half the juice collected Place 15mL of boiled juice in a bottle labelled boiled pineapple juice and 15mL into a bottle labelled fresh pineapple juice Proteolytic gelation phase Divide the gelatin-petri dish samples up into 4 groups: control, boiled, canned and fresh. Leave the controlled petri dish absent of pineapple juice Pipette 3 drops of the labelled juices into corresponding petri dishes. Allocate one team member per variable group to minimise qualitative discrepancies Cover the petri dishes and allow reactions to occur for 120 minutes at room temperature Post-proteolytic gelation phase Remove cover from petri dishes and describe/record physical differences of each group. Tip any remaining juices out of the petri dishes Draw new circles around the post-liquid pits, measure and record the new diameters into results table Part B: Measuring the effect of temperature on enzymatic functioning in bromelain Preparation phase/Pre-lab Place gelatin and hot water into 250mL beaker and mix with stirring rod until gelatin has dissolved Allow the gelatin to set in the cool room for a day Cut out five 1.0 x 1.0cm cubes of gelatin using a razor blade Allocate each cube a number from 1-10 Weigh and record the weight of each cube into the results table Proteolytic gelation phase Label five test tubes from 1-5 with a black marker Place 10mL of fresh pineapple juice into each test tube Heat test tube 1 using a water bath heated at 35oC for 10 minutes Remove the test tube from the water bath, using tongs, and place into test tube rack Allow the test tube to cool down to room temperature by using a thermometer Repeat steps 3-5 using test tubes 2-5 at temperatures 45oC, 50oC, 60oC and 90oC. Placing test tubes in a bucket of crushed ice may quicken the cooling process Place allocated cubes of gelatin into respective tubes and allow to sit for 20 minutes Separate juice from the gelatin cubes and rinse with distilled water Allow gelatin cubes to completely dry Weigh the gelatin cubes and record variances in results table Results Table 1. Degree of enzymatic functioning in various types of pineapple juice Table 1 depicts data taken from part A of the experiment. Three trials were run for each type of juice to ensure reliable results. It is apparent that there is a large change in the diameter of the fresh pineapple juice samples compared to the other types tested. Whilst canned pineapple juice displayed a lower degree of change, the boiled sample however seemingly gained gelatin. The control sample did not display any changes in the diameter of the pit. Figure 1. Step 1 of the proteolytic gelation phase (Part A) Figure 2. Step 3 of the proteolytic gelation phase (Part A) Recorded Observations Many air bubbles were formed during the pipetting of juices into the gelatin pits The diameter of the gelatin pits appeared to remain the same after a period of 120 minutes for canned, control and boiled pineapple juice Visible changes in hole size observed in fresh pineapple juice samples Table 2. Effect of temperature on enzymatic functioning in bromelain Table 2 depicts data taken from part B of the experiment. Like part A, three trials were made for each variable to ensure reliable data. As temperature applied to the juice increases, it is evident that the degree of weight loss of the gelatin decreased. However, test tube 2 displayed a result that deviated from this trend as the weight loss (%) dropped then rose again. The control sample displayed the highest amount of weight loss of the gelatin cube. The trend (not inclusive of the control) is represented in the figure below. Figure 3. Effect of temperature on enzymatic functioning in bromelainà à Figure 4. Step 3 of proteolytic gelation phase (Part B) Figure 5. Step 4 of proteolytic gelation phase (Part B) Recorded Observations Fresh pineapple juice retained a cloudy, yellow colour with froth formation on the surface of the juice During the cooling period, the pineapple pulp separates from the liquid and forms two distinct layers Gelatin cubes that were dropped into the test tubes rise to the top of the solution with pulp sediments resting on the bottom of the test tube Discussion Part A It was supported by the results in Table 1 that fresh pineapple juice displayed a larger degree of enzymatic functioning compared to the other three sample types (boiled, canned and control). This is depicted through the change in the diameter of the gelatin pit. Enzymes in bromelain work to break down the gelatin and the larger the pit, the greater the functioning of those enzymes. The fresh pineapple juice sample showed an 18.18% change in the diameter of the gelatin pit. The canned pineapple juice had a lower degree of change (5.49%). This may have stemmed from the preparation and processing of the juice that may have altered the integrity of the bromelain in the juice. It may have been subject to heating to sterilise the juice that may have caused the denaturing of the enzymes responsible for the breakdown of gelatin. The boiled pineapple juice presented data that goes against the principle of bromelain breaking down gelatin. With a change in diameter of -1.18%, it has actually ââ¬Ëgainedââ¬â¢ gelatin after the proteolytic gelation phase. Since it is known that bromelain is responsible only for the degradation of gelatin, it is impossible for it to produce gelatin. Thus, this miscalculation may only have resulted from human error in marking and measuring the diameter. The marker used in this specific experiment produced rather thick lines relative to the small diameters that were measured. Use of a finer tipped marker may have minimised the chances of such inaccuracies to occur. The control sample involved a set of gelatin plates with no pineapple juice added. This was made to ensure that the pineapple juice was responsible for the degradation of the gelatin. If the control displayed a change in the diameter of the gelatin pits, then the experiment would be deemed invalid as more than one factor contributes to the degradation of gelatin besides bromelain. In accordance to the results, the control group displayed no changes to the gelatin pits. Part B Part B of the experiment explores the effect of temperature on the enzymatic functioning of bromelain. From the data recorded in Table 2, an increase in temperature applied to the juice corresponds to the decrease in the functioning of the enzymes as depicted through the amount of weight the gelatin cube lost. This trend is illustrated in Figure 1. Whilst there is an overall decrease in weight loss associated with increased temperature, there is an outlier at 45oC. Although this variable was repeated thrice, it still remained inconsistent relative to the data set. Such an error may have occurred with the apparatus provided on the day of the experiment where there were only three water baths provided (37oC, 50oC and 90oC). The experiment design took into account the equipment available that was provided in the laboratory manual that offered water baths at 35oC, 45oC, 50oC, 60oC and 90oC. Hence, maintaining the pineapple juice at 45oC and 60oC using the apparatus provided was the most probable cause of the error. In the case of the 45oC variable, it may have been heated too strongly that resulted in the denaturing of many more enzymes compared to at 50oC and 60oC. To improve upon this error, water baths with temperatures corresponding to those given in the laboratory manual should be provided to ensure accurate quantitative data. As mentioned previously in the introduction, it is known from past experiments that the enzymes in bromelain begin to denature very quickly at 80oC (Jutamongkon Charoerein, 2010, p943-948)3. This experiment confirms the statement as the 90oC variable experienced a steep decline in weight lost that indicates a large degree of enzyme denaturing. Naturally, most enzymes have a temperature range that it functions most effectively at. However, this graph only portrays temperatures > 35oC, not covering a large range of temperatures that is able to point out the optimum temperature. Again, this was not able to be accounted for in the experimental design due to the limited apparatus provided. From the trend line in Figure 1, a linear decrease is shown. However, a bell curve is usually representative of the optimum temperature where very low temperatures result in decreased enzyme functioning and decreased weight loss. As the temperature increases the enzyme reaches its optimum level of functioning and results in a large amount of gelatin degradation. With temperature reaching higher levels, the enzymes begin to denature and cease to function which brings the levels of weight loss down again. Relative to this experiment, the optimum temperature is ideally oC. In addition, the control displayed the greatest amount of weight loss com pared to all the variables that were tested (36.14%). The control was not applied any heat but rather subject to room temperature which is ~20oC. This reinforces the notion that the optimum temperature of the enzymes responsible for the breakdown of gelatin is oC. To validate this statement, the experiment should be repeated again but with a wider range of temperatures to account for the bell curve trend that should occur to identify the optimum temperature. Reflective Comments This experiment on bromelain was performed by three persons including myself. The first part of this assessment task was performed individually as per instructions. After we completed this task, we got together and planned the experimental design. Each person was assigned a role in this activity where I was tasked with completing the risk assessment and drawing scientific diagrams. The other two collaborators were responsible for completing the methodology and the list of materials and equipment. When we had completed our tasks, we discussed each part together to come to a mutual agreement. Many modifications were made to all parts that were essential to keeping our experimental design valid. Designing this experimental protocol with my classmates was a pleasant experience as each one of us were committed and contributed to the project. During this part of the project, no significant difficulties were faced as we all worked through our tasks smoothly. To me, teamwork was already a no tion that I valued strongly, however this activity of getting together and completing such a large amount of work in so little time has definitely set that notion in stone. The approach to allocating tasks to different members was also done on the day of the experiment. An action plan was formulated with all the roles and times of the tasks that have been allocated and given to each member of the group. A great reason for doing this is so that we can minimise human error in repetitive tasks. For example, I had a role in heating the juices in the given hot water baths. If two of us were to heat it, one may have a different way of regulating the temperatures 45oC and 60oC (the temperatures not given) than the other member. Hence, we assigned such roles to be consistent with the method. It also maximises productivity so that all of us are working rather than one person work with the other looking on to see if they can help. The specific tasks that I have been allocated on this day was majority of Part B of the experiment. I was tasked with cutting the gelatin cubes, weighing and recording their weights, pipetting of juices into test tubes and heating the juices. After gelatin cubes have been dropped in and timed by another member, I removed, washed and dried the gelatin for the weighing process. In between my tasks where I had time I lent my assistance to my team members. At the end of the experiment we packed up the equipment and cleaned the lab bench so that we can sit down and discuss our results. The only minor problem experienced in this teamwork was the action plan. Some of the times allocated to specific tasks were under or overestimated. Although this is not necessarily a problem as we were provided three hours to conduct our experiment, it resulted in the clumping up of tasks where one member waited for another to finish their task to continue his/her own. Overall, I am very happy and satisfied with the outcomes of our team project (possibly the best team project I have ever had!). With minimal difficulties and great results, I would definitely proceed to approach teamwork like this in future projects. However, this method of teamwork is only suitable if all team members are committed to their roles. If one does not pull their weight and not complete their allocated roles, the group could fall apart. Hence, it would be best for me to find myself a group of dedicated individuals in future projects. References Rowan AD, Buttle DJ Barrett AJ, 1990. African Diageo
As it has been said before, one of the key growth drivers for Adagio is innovation. The company, Adagio, has understood how to create new products. They take the insight they receive from the consumers and they turn them around into a product that appeals them. A good example of how they did this is the product Snap that is designed specifically for women. Since the role of African women is changing in the society, they created a product that appeals them. The women can also identify themselves with the product, as a sophisticated and independent woman. It's a sparkling apple flavored premium drink, which in the advertisement, is served in a champagne glass. The product differentiates itself from other products that are towards women. The taste and design is also adapted to their culture. The product was new to the world, when it comes to design, the liquid product, materials and ingredients. It is something the African women desired. A major advantage they had, when innovating this p roduct was that they had conducted market research to develop insight on modern African female consumers and the role that alcohol plays in their lives.Their R team made Hereford a specific product that is relevant to African female consumer. With the help of R they made a innovation that maintained the customers focus. This is really important in terms of finding a strategy' for the product. However, what makes the R&D so successful is the communication they have internally. They report to local businesses directly in order to ensure alignment they have with strategy, market and consumer. Another successful innovation that Adagio created was Rut Extra. It was a ââ¬Å"clear beeâ⬠which targets the value consumer. The beer was a Ghanaian beer made from Ghanaian cassava and therefore, it engaged community leaders, which in return engaged the community and it made the community wanting to buy the product. The product was placed strategically in cultural festivals, which could incr ease brand awareness and find the right consumers for it. To develop their product strategy Adagio has, in addition to R&D and communication, carefully used other tools for the best result, such as collaborations and cost structures. Both of these are really important. The elaboration with regional and country teams plays an important role in centralization. By collaborating they could integrate different functions and desires that was necessary to make the product a success. Another reason why both of these products have been successful is the cost structure Adagio have. Adagio has collaborations with local farmers and suppliers, therefore allowing them to lower their cost. As a result of the cost structure they are able to have bigger quantity than their competitions, which give the consumer more value for the price.

Race And Racism The American Ideological Space - 923 Words
Race and racism have been the most dominant concepts in the American ideological space. Most people see this as a way of identifying themselves while at the same time serving as a tool of separation. For the Americans, race is an identity signified by the color of the skin and the type of physical features a person has. The colors are genetically inherited; that is they are passed on from the parent to the offspring. This is highlighted as a case of both science and philosophy because people who belong to different parentage are always expected to have different physical appearances. Presently, American is made up of people with different physical appearances. It is ideally a representation of all people globally. America is a place that has the widest variety of the people that can be found. In the event that people from these races wish to segregate themselves, this will be practically easy because they will be determined by the color of their skin. The physical appearances are eas y to decipher and bring out at any time. This is what has made racism easily possible in the United States; the fact that one can easily identify another from the way they appear and chose to identify them as either their own or alien. The proponents of race and racism had a desire to brand people so that it would be easy to manage them with minimum effort. Such a style of branding people and meeting the specific targets of identifying individuals has brought divisions in the society.
